"档案"时常被认为是一种记忆的载体,它将过去的记忆用当下的手法保存,并常常为我们提供寻找未来方向的灵感。加拿大档案学学者Terry Cook将公共档案比作承载社会历史记忆的重要载体,将公共档案开放给公众可以起到启发公众的身份认同的作用。
与公共档案不同,在中国时尚产业当中,由于商业逻辑的需要,存在着许多并不对外公开的收藏系列。但是什么可以被称为"档案"其实还是一个悬而未决的议题。面对一个未明确的定义,中国时尚产业该如何理解"档案"的作用,以及"档案"所储存的历史记忆有什么意义呢?
本次展览引用英国皇家艺术学院时尚史博士师陌的时尚档案研究,希望以一个开放的态度,邀请当代中国设计师们共同讨论:什么是中国时尚档案?并通过展览为中国设计师拓宽边界,发掘关于"档案"的多元化定义,以及它在中国时尚产业当中的意义。
"Archives" are often regarded as carriers of memory, preserving our memories by using contemporary methods and frequently providing inspiration for future directions. Canadian archive scholar Terry Cook compares public archives to crucial agent carrying societal historical memory, emphasizing that opening public archives to the public can inspire citizens to reconsider their identity and their roots in their own culture.
Within the Chinese fashion industry, many internal collections exist due to commercial imperatives, which are in contrast to the public archives. However, what can be defined as "archives" remains a contentious issue. Faced with an undefined definition, how should the fashion professionals in Chinese fashion industry understand the role of "archives," and what significance do the historical memories stored in "archives" hold?
The exhibition draws on the research of Dr. Shi Mo, a fashion history researcher from the Royal College of Art in the UK. By adopting her diverse definition regarding Chinese fashion archive, the exhibition invites contemporary Chinese designers to collectively discuss: What is an Chinese fashion archives? The exhibition aims to create space for Chinese fashion professionals to explore a diverse definition of fashion archives and discover its significance within the Chinese fashion industry.
